Before World War I, Adler cars boasted two- or four-cylinder engines that won many races. The Alder's racing successes continued into the 1920s and 30s. The company also developed six- and eight-cylinder Standard models between 1927 and 1934. The Standard is a particularly popular classic for sale - in its day and now - because it was soundly designed and well-made, highly regarded for blending function and style with imperial flair.
An Adler Standard - the ideal classic for sale today - was the first car made in a European country to feature a hydraulic brake system. The company also developed and introduced the successful front-wheel drive Trumf and Trumf-Junior models that continued to win races, including the famous 24-hour La Mans sports car race. The company manufactured rear-driven vehicles, as well, until 1937. By this time Adler cars, such as the Diplomat and Favorit, sported 58 or higher horsepower six-cylinder engines that could cruise at 125 kilometers or 78 miles per hour.
Though Adler stopped producing cars at the start of World War II, and focused on manufacturing bicycles and typewriters, the company did manufacture motorcycles again between 1949 and 1957. From the Adler's beginning to the present day, every one of its automobile models has been considered a most highly sought after classic for sale. Car enthusiasts are among the few who know that the prototype for the once ubiquitous Volkswagen "Beetle" was designed and constructed at the Adler factory in 1931. Today, Adler cars remain the most choosy enthusiast's ideal.
