Datsun for sale

Datsun classics for sale were founded in 1931 by the DAT Motor Car Company. The cars were first known as Datsons. This was later changed because it is similar to a Japanese phrase with a bad connotation. Datsun would symbolize good luck. The brand was taken over by Nissan in 1933. When World War II started, Nissan began producing military vehicles for the Japanese government, and in the Korean War the United States Army used a variety of Datsun vehicles.

For many years, trucks were produced under the Nissan name and cars were produced under that Datsun brand. This naming strategy was carried over when Nissan entered the American market in the late 1950s. The company grew quickly and soon expanded into markets outside Japan. The first Datsun classics for sale in America came in through California.

The models that most people think of when they hear Datsun classics for sale are the Fairlady sports cars that were produced in the 1960s. These roadsters may have been named for the musical My Fair Lady. These were the first Datsun sports cars and were based on a sedan platform rather than a truck platform as previous models had been. While similar to cars like the British Triumph, the Datsun Fairlady came at a much lower price. In fact, Datsuns were known for being bargain sports cars. Early models came with a four-speed manual transmission, a transistor radio, and an extra seat in the back that faced sideways. In the later 1960s a five-speed manual transmission was introduced and emission controls were developed. By 1967, the Bluebird 411 offered front disc brakes and a three-speed automatic transmission.

The Datsun 240Z was a sleek two-seater with unique scoop headlights and an affordable price. One million were sold in the 1970s. Many 240Z classics for sale are still available in California. The Datsun 510 was compared to a BMW at half the price. This was the model that made Nissan a household name in many countries outside Japan. While still sometimes available, many of these sedans have been modified. While the Datsun 510 was referred to as the “poor man’s BMW,” the Datsun 240Z was “the poor man’s Ferrari.” The 1970s also saw datsun launch an advertising campaign based on its fuel efficiency.

In the 1980s Nissan began to do away with the Datsun name. Datsun classics for sale were eventually replaced by the Nissan Sentra, Stanza, and Maxima models.
