Delahaye for sale
Emile Delahaye began his automobile manufacturing company in 1894, and the first Delahaye classics for sale were produced in 1896. The first Delahaye cars were belt-driven with single or twin-cylinder engines. By the early 1900s, the French company began producing four-cylinder engines. By the end of the first World War their truck business had surpassed their car business in profits and production.Delahaye used the success of their truck division to develop cars that utilized engines derived from their trucks. It was not until 1935 that the company saw success in their car business, with the introduction of the Model 135 Coupes des Alpes. With speeds up to 100 miles per hour, it was one of the fastest cars of its time. It had a six-port exhaust manifold which was a first for road cars. Delahaye Model 135 classics for sale also offered an option for an electromagnetically-charged gearshift mounted near the steering wheel. The cars were best known, however, for their elegance and French-styled interiors and exteriors.
Around the same time Delahaye began building cars for racing and won some impressive titles which created a surge in demand for the these classics for sale. This showing of French patriotism lasted until World War II, when the Germans began to occupy France. They did build some cars for the French government, but private sales of Delahaye classics for sale had been discontinued by then.
After the war, Delahaye resumed production of the Model 135. It was one of the few European luxury car brands that survived this period. Over the next few years, several new models were releases with updated Model 135 engines. The last new model produced was the VLRD (Véhicule Léger de Reconnaissance Delahaye), and was more like a Jeep than a luxury car.
Delahaye was taken over by the Hotchkiss company who shut down production in 1954. They soon dropped the Delahaye name from their cars as well.
Delahaye classics for sale were engineered well, and no two are alike. People drive Delahaye classics for sale to show that they have taste and, perhaps, French sensibility. It is not surprising that these cars are preferred by the very wealthy. Delahaye classics for sale have fetched up to $3 million at auctions.
