Diamond T for sale
Diamond T classics for sale were custom built motor cars manufactured and sold in Chicago from 1906 to 1911. The company was founded by Charles Tilt and legend has it that it started as a machine shop in the corner of his father’s shoe factory. The name came from the logo of the shoe company, which was a diamond shape (symbolizing quality) with a T inscribed in it (for Tilt). In 1911 the company switched to manufacturing trucks. This may have happened when a customer ordered a custom-built truck for a plumbing supply company and Tilt realized the profits that could be made in commercial trucks.
At first the trucks were slow and made for heavy-duty work. As the company began to expand and utilize an assembly line process, the trucks became more modern. The company competed directly with Mack trucks, but was also recognized for being very stylish. In fact, Diamond T classics for sale were known as “the Cadillac of trucks.” By the late 1920s they offered an enclosed cab, hydraulic brakes and electric lights. Meanwhile the company was branching out into dealerships outside the local Chicago area.
In the late 1930s, deluxe Model 80 Diamond T classics for sale came with electric clocks and jeweled cigar lighters. The one-ton Model 201 was unique for its time because it did not borrow its design from passenger cars – it was built to be rugged. The truck was also built with x-frame for strength and durability, and it was heavier than any other truck. That meant it could stand to carry a heavier load. Despite being a heavy-duty truck, however, Diamond T classics for sale remained stylish, with features like chrome hubcaps, armrests, and parking lights.
The Diamond T company produced heavy duty military vehicles for World War II. These trucks used a Hinckley four-cylinder motor that was later used in its regular trucks.
After the war, Diamond T classics for sale offered two-tone paint jobs and other options. But times were changing. Ford and Chevrolet had entered the pickup truck market at lower price points.
Diamond T eventually became a division of the White Motor Company, which was started by the family that owned the White Sewing Machine company . In the 1960s, Diamond T was merged with REO Motor Company to create Diamond REO trucks. About a quarter million Diamond T classics for sale were produced in their time.
