Ducati for sale

The Ducati company started out making radio equipment. They did not begin producing motorcycles until 1944, when their factory was destroyed by bombing in the war. With encouragement from the Italian government, Ducati began to manufacture the motorized bikes the company is known for.

The first Ducati classics for sale featured a 50cc “pup” (or Cucciolo, in Italian) motor that owners had to attach to the bike themselves. The motor was so-named because the noise created by the exhaust sounded like a puppy. The first bikes were lightweight – under 100 pounds. Throughout the 1940s, the little motor grew to a more powerful 125cc.

In the 1950s, Ducati focused on developing a high performance line of bikes. The Ducati Gran Sport was a popular model at the time. The Grand Prix featured a desmodromic valve operating system that could safely operate at 15,000 rpms. The Tourist 274 was a four-strike motorcycle.

The 250cc twin-cylinder was introduced at the beginning of the 1960s. At the request of American importers, Ducati produced the Scrambler and the Apollo models. Mark 1 250 classics for sale included a five-speed gearbox which was rare. The Mark 3 series came in 250cc, 350cc and 450cc variations.

The Ducati 750 Gran Turismo produced in 1971 had a sixth speed, but there were problems with the gearbox and electrical equipment. Ducati motorcycles did well in racing competitions throughout the 1970s. At the beginning of the 1980s, the Pantah 500 was introduced with belt-driven camshafts. These classics for sale were some of Ducati’s most successful models. The 750 F1 was a minimalist bike that was also very popular.

The Ducati Monster featured an exposed engine. Ducati Supermono classics for sale were lightweight, single cylinder racers. Less than 100 were produced in the 1990s. The 916 was a seriously limited model designed by Massimo Tamburini that was drriven by Carl Fogarty to win the World Superbike Championship in 1994. The next year 916 models are offered for sale to the general public. It was a powerful and comfortable model that soared in popularity, and a smaller version was also created. Ducati became a publicly traded company in 1999. The MH900e was named for racer Mike Hailwood. It was the first bike in the SportClassic line and also the first bike to be sold online-only. Ducati continues to manufacture motorcycles with advances in design and mechanics.
