Duesenberg for sale
The brothers Fred and August Duesenberg started their automobile company in 1913. Duesenberg classics for sale were produced in St. Paul, Minneapolis. They were engineers who had emigrated from Germany and built their cars by hand. They built a factory in New Jersey to manufacture aircraft and tractor engines as well as cars. Their 16-cylinder engine was an early record setter for speed – reaching 158 miles per hour at Daytona Beach in 1919. Two years later, Duesenberg would be the only American car to eve win the French Grand Prix. Soon the Duesenbergs moved to Indianapolis to build racing cars.Their first mass-produced vehicle was the Model A. The dual overhead cams, four-valve cylinder heads and hydraulic brakes were considered advanced for their time but the car was not successful. Problems with production at the plant in Indianapolis may have contributed. The sportier Model X classics for sale are very rare. The company went bankrupt in 1922. Lobban Cord, owner of the Cord Motor Company, took over that the Duesenberg classics for sale really began to take off. For all of their expertise and racing feats, it wasn’t until Errett Lobban Cord, owner of the Cord Motor Company, took over the company a few years later that the Duesenberg classics for sale really began to take off. He would use the Duesenberg company name to produce and market luxury cars, namely the Model J and Model SJ classics for sale. Fred Duesenberg continued to work at the company.
The Model J featured a 6.9 liter straight-eight engine that was almost four feet long! The wheelbase was over 150 inches and the bodies were custom-made. The Model SJ added a centrifugal supercharger. The total weight was about 6,000 pounds. Less than 500 were produced between 1928 and 1937.
Nicknamed the “Duesie,” and selling for up to $20,000 in the 1930s, these cars were very expensive for their time. It s no surprise that Duesenberg classics for sale became popular with very wealthy people like celebrity Clark Cable and Colorado mining tycoon H.G. Liebhardt.
The company collapsed in the later 1930s and disappeared during World War II. The Duesenberg family made attempts at revival in the 1940s and 1960s and reproductions were available
These days, Jay Leno is known to own several Duesenberg classics for sale, and has said that they are the only cars made in the early 1930s that have the capacity to keep up with modern traffic.
The company collapsed in the later 1930s and disappeared during World War II. The Duesenberg family made attempts at revival in the 1940s and 1960s and reproductions were available for some time. It is the Model J and SJ that are some of the most sought-after classics for sale and some are worth over a million dollars.
