Fiat for sale
The Fiat company was founded in Italy in 1899. They are Italy’s largest car manufacturer. The first of the Fiat classics for sale was the 3 ½ CV. Only eight of them were built. The first Fiat was exported to the United States in 1908.Fiat factories shut down during World War I to manufacture aircraft engines, guns, and trucks. After the war, Fiat quickly came to control the majority of the Italian car market. They also supplied war materials during World War II. They have won several European car of the year awards.
Fiat intended to market its cars to the common man. In 1936, production of the 500 began. The idea was to create a car that cost 5,000 lira. Fiat was not able to produce a car they could sell that cheaply, but Italians loved the car and it was quickly nicknamed il Topolino, or “little mouse.”
The Fiat 500 classics for sale have been likened to Italy’s answer to the Ford Model T. More than three million Fiat 500s were produced and are still quite popular for everyday use in Italy, though they are becoming collectible. It is a simple, cheap car for the common man. Early versions featured an air-cooled two-cylinder engine. The bodies were similarly tiny, measuring just ten feet from bumper to bumper and shaped like an egg. The cars weigh less than a Mini, and the interior, too, is basic, with upholstered metal frame seats and just a few warning lights and a speedometer. The car does not do well on the highway, but it was perfectly suited to driving around Europe’s narrow streets.
The Fiat Panda classics for sale were one of the first modern city cars. Compact and cheap, it was roomy for its size. Most were two-door hatchbacks, but there were other variations like all-wheel drive. About 4.5 million Pandas were sold from 1980 to 2003.
Fiat’s business, however, was not restricted to small cars for working class city dwellers. The Fiat Jolly runabouts were basically beach buggies with wicker seats marketed to the superrich and were popular as estate runabouts. These classics for sale were open-air, doorless vehicles with cut-dwon sides and windshields. They also came with fringed tops and were available in an assortment of pastel colors.
These days fiat manufactures small city cars, sports cars, vans and trucks. Fiat acquired the Alfa Romeo company, among others, and also has a stake in the American Chrysler corporation.
