Hornet for sale

According to Jay Leno, comedian and classic car collector, Hudson Hornets are one of the top ten most collectible American cars. The Hornet was manufactured by the Hudson Motor Car Company, founded in 1909 by a group of investors including department store owner Joseph Hudson. Hudson was one of the first car manufacturers to develop a closed car design to protect people from the rain and wind.

The company was also a pioneer of the “step-down” bodies, which required passengers to step down into the body of the car surrounded by the frame. This was safer and more comfortable. The lower center of gravity also made for better performance.

Strong and lightweight, the Hornet would set records for Hudson. The Hudson Hornet was a NASCAR legend, winning a majority of Grand National races in the years of 1952, 1953, and 1954. By the 1950s most carmakers had installed V8 engines, but the Hornet featured a 145-horsepower straight six-cylinder with Twin H dual carborators. The cars were also used for dirt track racing. While Hudson classics for sale would continue to be popular with drag racers for years, this was not enough to keep sales numbers up. The “step-down” body was not built with a separate frame and chassis the way other manufacturers did and therefore it was difficult and expensive to change the look of their cars every year. Sales were lagging, and Hudson merged with the Nash in 1954 to form the American Motors Corporation.

The Nash version of the Hornet was a Nash automobile with the Hudson Hornet name. These were known as “second generation” Hornet classics for sale and are not as widely sought-after. The drop-down design and streamlining were removed, and wider seats were introduced. Convertibles were no longer available. The 1957 models featured more ornamentation including twin find on the front fenders. The tow-door hardtop was known as the “Hollywood” version. Although the price was reduced and the power increased, Hudson Hornet classics for sale did not do well with consumers that year. 1957 was the last model year that the Hudson name was used, although the name was briefly resurrected in 1970 for the Rambler replacement.

The car was featured in the Disney Pixar film Cars, named Doc Hudson and voiced by Paul Newman. Today Hudson classics for sale can keep up with modern cars on the highway and are worth up to $75,000.
