Imperial for sale
Chrysler introduced the Imperial in 1926. It was intended to rival Cadillac and Lincoln, and came as a roadster, coupe, sedan, or limousine. It had a larger engine than standard Chrysler classics for sale and was guaranteed to reach 80 miles per hour. It was used as pace car and set a record for driving over 6,500 miles in one week.Imperial classics for sale were redesigned in 1931. They now featured an inline eight-cylinder engine found in many Chrysler cars. Wire wheels were introduced and would remain standard until the 1940s. The car continued to set racing records. Despite the hard times brought on by the Great Depression, these classics for sale sold well to the remaining upper class.
In the mid-1930s Chrysler introduced the Airflow design, which was tested in a wind-tunnel. Utilizing unibody construction, the cars were very strong. This Imperial offered seating for eight, and a comfortable ride with the engine and passenger compartment pushed forward. However, the ultra-modern redesign was not a hit with the buying public.
The Imperial was simplified in the 1940s, and only two models were produced. In 1949 four-wheel disc brakes were introduced. In the 1950s power steering was offered, along with Chrysler’s first full automatic transmission.
From 1955 to 1983 Imperial was sold separately from Chrysler to distinguish it as a luxury brand. It came as a two-door coupe or four-door sedan, and the wheelbase was extended to offer more legroom. Air conditioning was offered as an option. In 1956 the Imperial had tailfins and the longest wheelbase ever. Imperial classics for sale during the 1950s and 1960s also featured signature “gunsight” taillights separated from the fender.
Beginning in 1957, the Imperial was built on its own platform, and were wider than most other cars. This made them strong and safe. Three levels of trim were available: Imperial Custom, Imperial Crown, and Imperial LeBaron. Through the 1960s the styling became more exaggerated. The cars became longer and wider and had wild fins, grilles, and taillights.
Imperial classics for sale were revived in the 1990s. With velour or leather upholstery, the cars seated six. Power equipment was standard, and cellular phones and CD players were optional. The car also had distinct hidden headlights. Despite all this, the car did not sell well, and was discontinued in 1993. It was replaced by the Chrysler LHS in 1994. Early Chrysler Imperials now sell for up to $200,000.
