Jaguar for sale
Jaguar classics for sale were born from the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1935. The first car to be produced, the SS Jaguar 100, was introduced at the London Auto Show in 1935. The “SS” in the name stood for Swallow Sidecar, but the letters were soon dropped to disassociate from the Nazi presence in Germany.Early models, including the Mark IV classics for sale, came with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine supplied by Standard Motor Company, or a 2.5 or 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine produced by Jaguar.
During World war II Jaguar built sidecars for the military. The first model launched after the war was the streamlined Mark V, with independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes. However, the car that really made a difference for Jaguar in the post-war era was the XK 120, a sports car with a top speed of 120 miles per hour. At first only 200 of these classics for sale were to be made, but because of great demand, the cars were soon being mass-produced. Key to the success of the brand after the war was the twin cam straight six-cylinder engine.
The C-type cars stood for competition, and compete they did. Driven by Stirling Moss, the car won the 1951 Le Mans race. The bodies were aerodynamic while the undercarriage was based on the XK 120. Only about 50 of these classics for sale were ever produced. The next evolution for racing was the aerodynamic D-type. Driven by Mike Hawthorn, this model, too, won a race in 1955, but this time it ended in tragedy after an accident killed many people. The E-type is the long-nosed “Jag” that most people are used to seeing.
The company merged with the British Motor Corporation, owner of Austin-Healey and MG, in 1966. The company had some financial troubles in the 1970s and almost went bankrupt, but rebounded with the XJ40. The XJ is Jaguar’s flagship model. In the 1990s, Jaguar received an investment from the Ford Motor Company to modernize its facilities. This enabled them to create the new XKR and XK8 sport coupes. Towards the end of the 1990s the S-type and X-type were released, further expanding the range of vehicles available.
Jaguar continues to produce sporty sedans and coupes, including the XJ, XF, and XK classics for sale. Most people are familiar with the leaping Jaguar ornament. The Jaguar brand always stood for luxury and sophistication, and was never made for the common man.
