La Salle for sale

General Motors introduced the LaSalle to fill a gap between Cadillac and Buick. These classics for sale were manufactured and sold from 1927 to 1940, and were known for being smaller and more elegant than Cadillac. However, they were built by Cadillac and shared the same high standards. It was considered one of the most attractive classics for sale.

The LaSalle was initially offered in a range of body styles and was one of the first cars to be offered in a two-tone paint job. The car was equipped with the Cadillac V8 engine, but lighter, faster, and more maneuverable. The Great Depression came along just two years later and sales of LaSalle were slow. Those that did sell were hurting Cadillac as consumers moved toward the cheaper brand.

Significant changes were made to the 1934 LaSalle. All bodies were made by Fleetwood, and the car had a signature thin radiator grille. It was also designed to reduce wind resistance and noise. These classics for sale were priced well below Cadillac. The strategy worked and sales rebounded. The LaSalle was used as a pace car in several races during the 1930s. Often new design features were tested on the LaSalle before being integrated into the Cadillac, and the car influenced design for all future models.

Toward the end of the decade, the LaSalle was designed to look more like a Cadillac. Grille work was added to the sides of the radiator and the headlights were attached there as well. A sunroof was added and advertised as the “sunshine Turret Top.” In 1940 LaSalle’s were once again offered in a range of body styles, including a convertible. Still, both LaSalle and Cadillac were outsold by Packard.

General Motors ended the product line before the 1941 models could be built. These were replaced with the Series 61 Cadillac. These prestigious classics for sale were now available to a wider group of customers. Perhaps the decision was also based on the impending war.

People loved the LaSalle brand and GM considered using the name for Cadillac and Buick models in the 1960s and 1970s, but it was always passed on. Some people know the LaSalle from its mention in the opening credits of the popular show All in the Family. The car stands for a simpler time that people are nostalgic for.

These days, LaSalle classics for sale can be worth over $100,000.
