The legendary Lamboghini swing up doors were introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 1973. The Countach had a futuristic look that amazed the public. A later version featured fender flares, a rear wing, and wide wheels.
The next year Lamborghini’s tractor business suffered a huge setback and he began selling off shares. The oil crisis slowed sales of high performance vehicles and there problems with labor and supplies at the factory. Throughout the 1970s, however, sales of the Miura classics for sale were strong, and the Countach continued developing. Fiat eventually bought the factory, and Lamborghini sold his remaining shares.
The company faced bankruptcy and was eventually sold the Chrysler. With the resources of the big company, the Diablo was created to meet new manufacturing standards and emission controls. They also produced a sport utility vehicle, the LM002, also known as the “Rambo Lambo.” It was popular with wealthy Middle Easterners who needed to get aound dunes and oil fields, but wanted a luxurious leather interior and sports car performance. Audi bought the company in the 1990s and the Murcielago was developed. The car features a V12 engine and all-wheel drive. The Gallardo is a smaller version with a V10 engine built to compete with Ferrari. Over the years the quality, engineering and drivability of Lamborghini classics for sale have improved, while the edgy, exotic styling has remained.
