Mercedes-Benz for sale
Mercedes-Benz is one of the oldest automobile manufacturers and its vehicles are some of the most well-known classics for sale in the world.Gottlieb Daimler was one of the first to be successful integrating a combustion engine into a road vehicle with a practical transmission system. Karl Benz had patented a single-cylinder, benzene-powered three-wheeled motor car in the 1800s.
In 1894, Daimler’s gas-powered engines dominated an early auto race to test electric-, steam-, and gas-powered vehicles. From that point on these classics for sale were known for their performance.
Emil Jellinek invested in the company and the 4-cylinder Daimler was named after his daughter, Mercedes. Mercedes was first sold in 1901 by Daimler Motoren Geselleschaft. The vehicles were branded as Mercedes-Benz starting in 1926 when Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler merged their companies into Daimler-Benz. The now-familiar three-pointed star logo was introduced at this time.
The Mercedes SS was an elegant model produced in 1928. The SSK was the lighter and shorter racing version of the car. In the 1930s, Mercedes-Benz produced the 540K, available as a coupe, cabriolet, or the rare Special Roadster. Some of these classics for sale were factory-built, while others were custom-built. They were contemporaries of Rolls-Royce and Delahaye, that is, owning one indicated status, money and power.
In the 1950s, Mercedes-Benz classics for sale were distributed in the United States through Studebaker-Packard dealers. The 300 SL started as a race car, but was introduced as a production vehicle at the New York International Auto Show in 1954. It featured gullwing doors and an inline six-cylinder engine. It also had more horsepower than the racer, with fuel injection rather than carburetors. The 300SEL 6.3 used a V8 engine borrowed from the Mercedes limousine and placed in a sedan. This flagship car of the late 1960s had wood trim, leather upholstery, and chrome gauges, as well fuel injection, four-wheel disc brakes, and air suspension. The 280SE 3.5, in 1971, was the first modern model, and featured the company’s first small V8 engine designed for power and efficiency. It was practically hand-built, and also very expensive.
These days Mercedes continues to make luxury sedans and sports cars, as well as family vehicles like the E55 wagon and the G55 AMG sport utility vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz has always enjoyed a reputation for quality, luxury, and reliability. Mercedes-Benz classics for sale can be worth millions of dollars, depending on age, model, and condition.
