Morris for sale
Morris classics for sale were first designed by bicycle manufacturer William Morris in 1910. He wanted to build a light car, and opened a factory in Oxford, England. The company’s first car was the Morris Oxford Bullnose. All the parts were brought in and assembly was done at the factory. This early version featured just two seats, and the company ran into difficulties developing a four-seat version with the small engine and the short chassis. Morris was able to get a bigger engine at an affordable price from the American company, Continental. The two-seater and the four-seat Cowley classics for sale were introduced in 1915, just as the first World War was starting. Despite the war, the cars were selling well, and the company was able to maintain their orders. After the war the Continental engine was no longer available. Instead, Morris commissioned the Hotchkiss company to make a copy in their factory. Morris had a reputation for producing quality cars at reasonable prices, and the company continued to grow. The MG brand had begun at a Morris dealer, Morris Garage, and sprouted off from Morris in 1928. The same year Morris would enter the small car market with the Morris Minor. With its small 847 cc engine, it helped keep the company afloat through the Great Depression of the time. The Minor was replaced by the Morris Eight, introduced at the 1934 London Auto Show.
The company suspended manufacture of cars when the Morris Bodies factory was hit by an air raid during the second World War. Instead, they produced containers and repaired aircraft. After the war Morris focused on bringing their pre-war Eight and Ten designs to market.
To replace the Eight, Morris then began to produce the Minor classics for sale. It is probably their most famous car. The new version returned to the “Minor” name from 1928. It was designed by Alec Issigonis, who would go on to design the Mini. In fact, the Minis were first sold under the Morris and Austin names.
The Morris company, along with MG, Riley, and Wolseley, were absorbed by several companies that eventually became British Leyland. Morris classics for sale were produced until the 1980s. In 1984, the Austin Rover Group at British Leyland decided to focus on the more popular Austin name. The last Morris classics for sale were the Morris Ital passenger car and a van.
