Nomad for sale
Chevrolet Nomad classics for sale were unique station wagons with a sedan-like hardtop. The car was designed as a concept for the General Motors Motorama auto show, and initially based on the Corvette. It was such a hit that the company decided to produce the vehicles for the public. The design was adapted to fit a 1955 Chevrolet passenger car.The Nomad classics for sale manufactured in the 1950s are the best-remembered versions. They were advertised as “The Hot One.” They seated six. Like the Bel Air, Nomads came with lots of chrome. A V8 engine was optional at first, until the Chevrolet “small block” V8 became standard. A Power Pack and Super Power Pack version was available for extra horsepower. It was constructed using the X-frame that other Chevys and Cadillacs were based on. Though it looked like a Chevy, the Nomad shared little with rest of the line and therefore was expensive to produce. The car was generally considered beautiful, but with just two doors, the car did not necessarily appeal to most wagon buyers, despite all the cargo space. In 1956 the race car inspired front end was replaced by a more raditional Chevrolet grille. Chevrolet attempted to cut costs by incorporating more components from the Bel Air, but it was still expensive. Because of this, production was suspended in 1958.
In 1958, Chevrolet moved the Nomad name to its four-door Bel Air Station wagon. This was the only time the Nomad was based on a four-door Bel Air. It was constructed using the X-frame that other Chevys and Cadillacs were based on. The next year, it was transferred to the Impala. These classics for sale became more boxy as they entered the 1960s and began being constructed on the GM B platform. In 1962, however, Chevrolet began using the regular sedan names on their station wagon models.
The Nomad was brought back in 1968 as the lowest priced Chevelle four-door station wagon. The car got a new body style, and new regulations required side marker lights and seat belts. The engine was designed to run on lower octane fuel. The headlights were also redesigned. The last Nomad station wagon classics for sale were produced in 1972.
The Nomad name was later used as a trim package on the full size Chevrolet van. The name has also been used on several General Motors concept cars over the years.
Today Chevrolet Nomad classics for sale can fetch up to $100,000 for a show-worthy car.
