Oldsmobile for sale
Oldsmobile was established in 1897. Oldsmobile (not Ford) created the first assembly line, and was the first mass producer of gasoline cars, in 1901. Their Curved Dash buggy quickly became the most popular car in the United States. It was powered by a single-cylinder water-cooled engine. Early marketing campaigns attempted to convince the public that these classics for sale were safer, faster, and more economical than horses. None other than the United States Postal Service ordered the Curved Dash for use as its first mail trucks. The company was purchased by General Motors in 1908. The brand sat between Pontiac and Buick in their tiered lineup of offerings.
The company continued to manufacture and publicize their vehicles throughout the early 1900s. In 1910 the Oldsmobile Limited was produced. It was one of the biggest and most expensive Oldsmobile yet. By 1918, when closed models were becoming more popular, Olds offered the Model 37 Series as the “all-season sedan.” In 1926 the company was first to offer chrome plated trim. Independent suspension and hydraulic brakes were incorporated in the 1930s, as well as “Automatic Safety Transmission.” The 1940 models were the first vehicles to have fully automatic transmission. This was known exclusively to Oldsmobile as “Hydra-Matic drive.”
After World War II, the company launched the Valiant program, which made specially equipped cars available to disabled veterans. The program was eventually expanded to include personalized vehicles for people with disabilities in the general public.
In the 1950s a wide grille was incorporated, along with a true hardtop and wraparound windshield. The Starfire was introduced at the 1953 Motorama. With a fiberglass body and a 200 horsepower Rocket engine, the jet fighter namesake was appropriate. These classics for sale also featured power windows and seats on the convertible models.
The Toronado, in 1966, was the first modern-day front-wheel drive car. Buyers were amazed at how well it handled in all types of conditions. Toronado classics for sale were considered to be quite stylish as well.
Oldsmobiles soared in popularity throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The Oldsmobile 442 was their muscle car, a contemporary or the Pontiac GTO. The Cutlass models were some of the most popular Oldsmobile classics for sale. The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme offered performance and luxury. The Oldsmobile 98 was a full-sized luxury sedan.
By the 1990s, however, the Oldsmobile brand was losing ground. It was discontinued in the 2000s. Today Oldsmobile classics for sale can be worth up to $50,000.
