Panoz for sale
Panoz classics for sale began in 1989. Daniel Panoz, grandson of a champion boxer and son of an entrepreneur in the pharmaceutical industry, discovered that a small Irish car builder, the Thompson Motor Company, was being liquidated. Panoz took the opportunity to purchase a chassis designed by Frank Costin, a well known racecar chassis builder. Costin’s resume included Maserati and Lotus. With this chassis, Panoz, with two former Thompson engineers, began developing a racing car. The first roadster was introduced in 1990. The first Panoz cars were custom made to order. These classics for sale had a steel space frame with aluminum panels, and used a V8 Mustang engine. The 1997 roadster had an all-aluminum frame and fully independent suspension. It was called the AIV Roadster because it was an “Aluminum Intensive Vehicle.” This model has a prominent hood scoop that makes it easily distinguishable from other Panoz creations, and it performs like “a V8 on a skateboard.” Less than 200 of these classics for sale were sold to the public.
The Panoz Esperante is another popular classic for sale that comes as a base model, GT, GTLM, GTS, and JRD. The body is handcrafted of lightweight aluminum, and the chassis is made up of aluminum and steel subframes. They offer four speed automatic and five- or six-speed manual transmissions. As a custom carbuilder, Panoz will work with buyers on special modifications. They have rear wheel drive and come as a convertible. The base model has over 300 horsepower. The supercharged GTLM has 420 horsepower. The GTS model meets SCCA standards with a driver’s harness, side bars and roll cage, and is lighter than the other models. Its panels are easily replaceable to repair minor racing accidents.
The Panoz Motor Sports Group owns several racetracks, including the Road Atlanta in Georgia, where Panoz classics for sale are heavily tested. All Panoz cars are handcrafted at a workshop nearby. Panoz uses its racing programs to link with its road cars. Panoz cars have done very well in competitive events throughout the 1990s, including the American LeMans Series, created by Don Panoz.
The company also operates racing schools and racing events. Students are taught how to race in Panoz cars or choose to learn in their own road cars. The Panoz Racing Series is designed for amateurs to learn racing in a low-cost environment.
Panoz classics for sale are rare and enjoyed by a select group of racing enthusiasts.
