Peugeot for sale

The first Peugeot classics for sale was a three-wheeled steam-powered version produced in 1889. Armand Peugeot became interested in manufacturing gasoline-powered cars after meeting with Gottlieb Daimler and other automobile pioneers. Steam cars proved to be inefficient, and a four-wheeled car with a gas-powered combustion engine was developed.

Production of these vehicles quickly increased. Peugeot was one of the first manufacturers to outfit rubber tires to a gas car. The brand was also involved in automobile racing in the 1890s. Peugeot built their first engines in 1896, until then they had used a Daimler engine. These early engines had eight horsepower and at first were hidden underneath the driver, until a hood was introduced on the Type 48.

That year, Armand Peugeot broke away from the family business to concentrate on cars. He called his company Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot and built a factory to focus exclusively on cars. By 1899, Peugeot offered 15 different models, and by 1903 the company was producing half the cars in France. They also built motorcycles. The one-cylinder Bebe model was introduced at a Paris Show in 1901. The famous designer Ettore Bugatti developed the Bebe classics for sale in 1912. Peugeot competed with Mercedes in the 1913 French Grand Prix.

After a break in car production during World War I, the company returned to racing and manufacturing in full force. During the 1920s, Peugeot expanded, taking over Bellanger and DeDion. Independent suspension was introduced in the 201 model, as was a new Peugeot trademark.

Peugeot experimented with an aerodynamic model in 1933. It was the first convertible with a retractable hardtop. After World War II, the Peugeot 203 classics for sale offered rack-and-pinion steering and hydraulic brakes. The 403 model, introduced in 1958, was one of the most popular Peugeots produced. One million of these classis for sale were sold. Many of Peugeot’s most distinctive models were designed by Pininfarina in the next few years. The company also entered into colalaboration with other firms like Volvo and Renault.

In the 1970s, Peugeot took over Citroen, and then the European division of Chrysler. However, these investments caused financial problems throughout the 1980s. In 1991, after 33 years of doing business in North America, Peugeot ceased operations in the United States and Canada. The company has won several European Car of the Year Awards. These classics for sale are not hard to find.
