Pierce-Arrow for sale
Pierce-Arrow classics for sale were manufactured in Buffalo, New York, from 1901 until 1938. They produced fine cars for rich and powerful buyers. George Pierce began his career in manufacturing and eventually started building bicycles. By 1900 he had started his own company and began experimenting with steam and motor cars. The early Motorette model used Pierce’s own engine. The next model to be produced was the Stanhope, with a similar engine mounted under the driver’s seat, and two speeds. The Arrow was a bigger car with the engine in the front. It seated four and featured a 15-horsepower engine. The Great Arrow debuted in 1904. It had a four cylinder Pierce engine and was made of cat aluminum body panels. It cost $4,000, which was practically a fortune at the time. It won several Glidden endurance tours and made Pierce’s reputation. The basic model was refined over the next few years. Percy Pierce won the first Glidden trophy in a Great Arrow in 1905.
Also in 1905, the Model 28-32NN was the signature Pierce-Arrow. It came in four body styles and color was optional. About 200 of these classics for sale were made. In 1907 a six-cylinder engine was offered in the Model 65-Q Great Arrow. The cars became more expensive, but the orders continued to pour in.
The Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company was incorporated in 1908. The Pierce family left the company, although Percy Pierce remained involved for several years. The Pierce-Arrow company now offered a triple line of vehicles. In 1913, they offered electric headlights.
As with many early carmakers, the Pierce-Arrow company manufactured large trucks for the English and French governments during the First World War. After the war, a dual-valve engine was introduced. Over 60 combinations of body and chassis were produced. In 1920, this number was reduced to ten. The Pierce-Arrow was now well-known for being one of the most prestigious and luxurious cars available. The Series 33 classics for sale were the flagship models of the 1920s. In 1924, the Series 80 was introduced as a less expensive alternative.
In 1928, the Pierce-Arrow company was purchased by Studebaker. The next year a straight-eight engine was included. Two twelve-cylinder engines were offered by 1932. The Pierce Silver Arrow was launched in 1933. It was well-received, however sales had began to drop in the tough years of the Depression and the Studebaker company was not doing well.
The last all new Pierce-Arrow was introduced in 1936, and the company went bankrupt in 1938.
Many rich and famous people have owned Pierce-Arrow classics for sale, and the White House was even a customer. Today cars in good condition can be worth over $100,000.
