Prowler classics for sale began being manufactured by Plymouth. Once the Plymouth brand was discontinued in 2000, the Prowler was sold as a Chrylser. These retro vehicles are based on a 1993 concept car introduced at the Detroit Auto Show. They were produced in 1997 and from 1999 until 2002.The Prowler is designed as a hot rod or sportster, with exposed racing style wheels in front. Some credit designer Chip Foose with the original idea that evolved into the Prowler. The Prowler used a Chrysler LH powertrain and a 3.5 liter V6 engine capable of 214 horsepower. It comes with Autostick automatic transmission. The transmission configuration is similar to sports cars like the Corvette, Porsche, and Alfa Romeo classics for sale. The Prowler was the first rear-wheel drive Chrysler has manufactured since the 1980s, with the Gran Fury. The chassis is made mostly of aluminum. Because of its light weight, the Prowler performs well and can move quickly.
In 1997, the Prowler was only offered in a purple metallic color, and just 457 were produced. Only 396 of these were available for sale. Later twelve colors became available, including two tone black and red or black and silver. The red and black was known as the Woodward Avenue Edition. Only one of these classics for sale was produced with High Voltage Blue Pearl Coat, this was sold at an auction to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The last 300 Prowler classics for sale were deep candy red, a nod to their hot rod heritage.
In all, almost 12,000 Prowler classics for sale were produced over the years. They cost about $40,000 when new. Prowlers have seriously limited trunk space, and Chrysler offered a trailer option for an additional $5,000. Prowler owners are quite proud of their unique vehicles. The Prowler Owner association started in 2000 and is over 3,000 members strong. A tenth anniversary celebration was held for them in 2007. The United States Post Office also issued commemorative postag stamps for the occasion.
While not a long-lasting model, the Prowler inspired other retro style classics for sale. Its influence can be seen most notably in the Chrysler PT Cruiser, which shares its features and pedigree, but also in Chevrolet’s SSR and HHR, and the retro Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, and Dodge Challenger. These classics for sale will continue to be sought after for many years to come.
