Rolls-Royce for sale

The classic for sale name Rolls-Royce is synonymous with quality and good taste and the automobiles that bare the name are immediately recognized for their luxury good looks -- both inside and out -- along with their silver hood ornament, a woman in billowy clothing known as the "Spirit of Ecstasy."

Rolls-Royce was founded in Britain in 1906 by businessmen Charles Rolls and Henry Royce. Owner of an electrical and mechanical business, Royce made his first car, a two-cylinder Royce 10 hp, at his Manchester factory in 1904. He met Charles Rolls at the Midland Hotel in Manchester that year and Rolls agreed to sell the cars at his motor car dealership in Fulham. The class for sale cars did so well that Royce made three more models -- 15hp, 20hp and 30hp -- and the two eventually agreed to form a company in 1906 called Rolls-Royce Limited.

One of the first big hits after the formation of the company was the classic for sale car known as the Silver Ghost, a six cylinder model with more power than the 30hp. More than 6,000 were made and the success of the Silver Ghost led to Rolls-Royce opening a manufacturing plant in Springfield, Massachusetts to meet growing demand in the United States. The Silver Ghost was hailed as "the best car in the world" - Rolls-Royce had sealed its reputation as a luxury brand.

Up until World War I, Rolls-Royce continued selling Ghosts, whose chassis served as the basis for the first British armored car in both world wars. But sales fell off as the economy plunged and Rolls-Royce was forced to introduce a cheaper classic for sale vehicle, known as the Twenty in 1922. Other classic for sale models made by Rolls-Royce, both in Britain and the United States, include the Phantom, Wraith, Silver Spirit all the way up to the latest model, the Silver Seraph introduced in 2002. The pinnacle products, according to the company, remain the Ghost and Phantom.

During the Great Depression, it became clear that another leading luxury classic for sale car manufacturer, Bentley, was unable to keep its head above water, so Rolls-Royce acquired the company in 1931. From that time on, Rolls-Royce and Bentley classic for sale automobiles were almost identical, except for small differences in details such as the radiator grill.

Rolls-Royce grew in other ways over the years. One of the founders, Henry Royce, had an avid interest in aviation and began developing aero engines for the British military in World War I. Rolls-Royce went on to become one of the leading makers of jet engines, always with a mindful eye on quality. Rolls-Royce had some financial difficulties in the late 1960s and was nationalized in 1971. The motor car portion would eventually be sold to classic for sale Volkswagen in 1998, while the aviation end was re-privatized under the name Rolls-Royce plc.
